The ski resort of La Berra – La Roche lies in the Gruyère district, in the Fribourg Pre-Alps, between the summit of La Berra (1,719 m) and the village of La Roche. It is only about twenty minutes by car from Fribourg, making it the most easily accessible winter sports resort in the region. People from Fribourg and Bulle come here for the weekend, or even after work, for a few runs in this little snowy haven.

The La Berra – La Roche ski area lies between 1,040 m and 1,635 m. It offers 25 km of slopes served by five lifts. All nine runs are blue, making it popular mainly with beginners and families. Beginners have a drag lift specially designed for them to discover the joys of skiing on an easier slope. As snow cover is not always guaranteed at low altitude, some runs have artificial snow. One of the resort's main attractions is its affordable prices and the option to pay by the hour, so people from the nearby towns of Fribourg and Bulle can come skiing after work.

For hiking enthusiasts, the resort offers three marked snowshoe trails with a total length of 18 km. It is even possible to link the resorts of Charmey and the Lac Noir. A 1,400 m toboggan run with a 270 m drop offers more sliding fun for young and old. If you like skating, there is an indoor ice rink in nearby Bulle, a twenty-minute drive from the resort.

If you want to take off your skis and explore the area, visit the nearby Gruyère Pays-d'Enhaut Regional Nature Park. In winter, many events let families discover local cultural and culinary traditions: bread-making workshops in the Javroz valley, a torchlight walk to the Cierne farm and Christmas story readings in Cerniat. You will also have plenty of opportunities to taste local products, including AOP cheeses (Gruyère, L'Etivaz and Vacherin Fribourgeois), cured meats, syrups and aperitifs.

Despite the resort's relatively small size, there is a varied choice of accommodation: several hotels in Bulle, apartments and chalets for rent, and inns and B&Bs in the hamlets close to the resort. And of course we must mention the famous Buvette de La Berra, a restaurant at the La Berra-La Roche resort serving good regional dishes (and a delicious homemade goat's cheese!) to skiers worn out after a day on the slopes!
